Practicing portraiture at Your Face Blog

London-based illustrator Damien Weighill began Your Face Blog in early 2007, hoping to improve his portrait-sketching skills by drawing random strangers. Readers participate by e-mailing photographs of themselves to be sketched in an upcoming post.

Many have been willing to risk the artist’s often very silly rendering. At the time of this write-up, Weighill had just posted his 274th sketch, and had begun selling tea towels and prints of the site’s images. Some samples from the blog:

Says Weighill: “Some people take the chance to tell me something about themselves in the hope that this will find its way into their portrait. It’s up to you if you want to do this. Who knows, maybe it will work. One thing is for sure though, if you ask specifically for your portrait not to include any added facial hair then you are definitely going to get a seriously massive beard.”

“So far my portrait drawing has shown no signs of improvement but I do have a bulging inbox to work on and my confidence in creating innacurate and possibly offensive renditions of people’s features is sky high.”

You’ll definitely want to check out Damien Weighill’s wacky portraiture blog for yourself (and maybe even submit your likeness?) at yourfaceblog.blogspot.com.
