An introspective family weekend with the Muppets featuring Harry Belafonte
I’m out-of-state this weekend, visiting the family for my niece’s 2nd birthday. These days she’s pretty down with the Muppet Show, thanks to my sister Netflix-ing a lot of our old favorite episodes.
Yesterday the three of us had a sweet little living room dance party to the following “Turn the World Around” performance from the episode featuring Harry Belafonte. It’s good stuff— and the intro featuring Fozzie the Bear resonates with me, as I brought some fiction-writing home that I’m struggling with. Thankfully I think ol’ Belafonte may be onto something:
Check out two more clips from the same episode here and here. Gotta say, I’m pretty happy to have grown up in a Jim Henson-heavy household. It’s neat to see my sister doing the same with my niece.
