Here is a question about my new plaid dress that I look adorable in

For like pretty much ever, I’ve been scoping out this full-length madras dress whenever I walk by the Gap’s window display near my work. The reasons I dig it are simple: (1) I like well-executed instances of non-winter plaid, (2) I like the ocean-y color combo, (3) I like to express my effortlessly carefree personality through my clothing, and (4) I knew this dress would look very, very adorable on me.

Today I went to the Gap during lunch, and [perfect opportunity to use the phrase “lo and behold” for the first time] lo and behold it was marked down to only 38 dollars! “It is time for me to own you,” I whispered in my head to the dress.

When I tried it on in the fitting room, I learned that— bonus— the dress totally accents my gorgeous green eyes. But, summertime fashions are loose and flowy, which is a little against my usual leanings towards the extremely tight (just kidding!) (unless I’m not), but if I accessorize with that low-slung belt I also bought recently, I can still display my fine figure for the whole wide world to appreciate.

Thus I’m pretty happy, except for ONE THING, which I now pose as a question for debate:

OK. So you know how every season there are a few key offerings from certain stores that are easily recognizable to people on the street? And when said onlookers spot said items, they’re moved to yell things like, “Ohh! Old Navy! I know where you shop!” causing you to feel cheesy even though you started out loving the dress but now everybody just yells store names at you constantly? Well, is this an instance of that? My current me-in-plaid-dress visions entail: looking so smooth & cool on my way to Prospect Park wearing sunglasses that definitely make me look like a celebrity, OR wading through the very edge of the ocean, picking up various beautiful shells like treasures in the sand, my hair tied back loosely and a light breeze blowing through my bangs. NOWHERE in these visions do I have room for gum-popping teenaged tourists and/or Self-Righteous Homeless Dude Living Under the Scaffolding Near My House yelling “Heyyy GAP!” at me.

So what do you think. Very important.
