It’s Always Sunny in Charliedelphia

I just finished watching some loaned DVDs of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (on FX), and now I am wondering what the hell episode I watched a long time ago that wasn’t so great? I don’t remember, but it made me feel really “ehh” about the show, so I didn’t bother watching again until recently, when I was ordered to give it a try for real. And it’s so good! Sometimes getting bossed around works out OK.

My only gripe with the It’s Always Sunny gang is that they always end up YELLING. There are at least two incidents of full-fledged yelling every episode. And while it does make sense for the main characters because they’re all totally self-absorbed and bratty, I sure didn’t enjoy all the racket that one time I was trying to relax and recover from a headache.

The character who is the best at yelling is Charlie (played by Charlie Day). He’s my favorite character for sure. His yelling never bothers me because it’s always so purposeful. For example, consider this improvised scene from my favorite episode thus far, titled “Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody’s Ass.”

Oh boy, have I watched that a lot of times or WHAT. I commend the other three actors for keeping straight faces. I wouldn’t have been able to.

Same goes for the following clip — pulled from Season 3’s “The Gang Dances Their Asses Off.”

That said, I’m an official fan now. It makes for a nice bonus to see so many Philly hot spots, also, as someone who lived there for the two years before moving to NYC. And the story behind the show’s inception is also pretty neat.
