Top 5 shows I saw in April, in the order I enjoyed them!

It’s been an exhausting month. Not that I’m complaining, as I packed in a good handful of really worthwhile shows in April. I needed this weekend to chill out & recover after a particularly action-packed past week.

Let’s start with a short playlist of sample songs from the bands I caught, and then move on to the ordered list of the top five acts. I’m throwing on an extra bonus Epochs track because I’m getting pretty into them after seeing them this second time (the first was when they opened for Hey Hey My My in March).

1. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, with Via Audio @ Union Hall, April 21

Those sweet young midwestern SSLYBY boys put on such a fantastic show — my friend & I exhausted ourselves with a whole lotta jumpin around.

2. The Constantines, with Mason Dixon @ Southpaw, April 19

These guys are just like, total professionals in every way. So cool that they’re opening for Spoon at Prospect Park Bandshell in July.

3. Tim and Eric Awesome Tour @ Highline Ballroom, April 22

DJ Dougg Pound opened, and as usual Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim gave the crowd a billion unbelievably insane reasons to yell “Great Job!”

4. Foals, with the Epochs @ Bowery Ballroom, April 24

Both the Epochs and Foals were fantastic, but the wasted NYU chicks unable to handle themselves by the stage are the official reason I’m never doing another 18+ show at Bowery.

5. The Dirty Projectors @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, April 9

Really interesting, erratic sound. And is it me, or does everybody seem to sound extra-good at Music Hall?
