Hello from Austin! My SXSW trip, day 1

Through Friday, I’m crashing with my friend Jess in Austin for my first SXSW!

My hipster-filled plane landed yesterday around dinnertime & after Jess cooked up a yummy meal it was off to Club de Ville, where Lone Star beer flowed free all night. There we caught San Francisco’s super-energetic Scissors For Lefty and the Toronto-based Golden Dogs, who the whole crowd fell in love with during old-school rock jam “1985.” (Catch the Golden Dogs on March 20 when they sweep through NYC to play Pianos).

After that we headed next door with half of the very nice Golden Dogs to the Mohawk and to catch the end of the Tokyo Police Club’s set (amazing live, judging from the little bit we saw).

All in all, it was a crazy-fun start to what’s shaping up to be a pretty insane week. And of course, besides all the live music we’ll be cramming in, I’ve also expressed interest in chowing on authentic Texas BBQ and Tex-Mex since it’s my first time in this part of the country!
