Behind-the-scenes blogging from Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s
It didn’t take them making Popwatch’s list of the Most Anticipated CDs of 2008 for me to realize that Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s are blowing up. It wasn’t their inclusion in SPIN’s “Who’s Next” feature this month, either (click here for the article, which also includes an exclusive video of new song “Flower Pot”).
Nope, what clued me in was when I couldn’t get tickets to their December 13 show at Mercury Lounge, which sold out way quicker than I’d anticipated (I’m still kicking myself for this). I’d seen them 3 times since becoming super-smitten with them in early ‘06 & hadn’t previously needed to be such a Ticketweb quick draw.
Following their 2006 release, The Dust of Retreat, the Indianapolis band toured like crazy — with all eight band members cramming themselves on stage to put on some really fantastic shows. Now they’re in the studio recording Animal!, which their new label Epic Records has set to release this summer.
Frontman Richard Edwards has been blogging regularly at the band’s MySpace page — giving fans a peek at the album’s progress, including photos, updated track listings, and behind-the-scenes stories.
As a fan in total suspense for this album, I’ve enjoyed keeping up with Animal!’s development through the blog — reading these stories in real time, rather than in the usual re-hashing of events in post-release interviews. Additionally, to tide us over, the Musical Family Tree site offers demos of upcoming tracks for download, a few of which I’m loving as-is!
