As if Zooey Deschanel needed to get any more awesome
Somebody tell me how it’s fair that Zooey Deschanel gets to be so damn awesome at everything.
All the indie-inclined boys I know rate her their #1 celebrity make-out pick, and she’s holding her own in girlcrush-land as well. She’s super-likeable in interviews, stunningly gorgeous, and brings total light to any acting role she takes on. Oh, and — as many discovered in the zany Will Ferrell Christmas comedy Elf — she also has one of the most beautiful singing voices ever.
Spotlighting this latter talent, she’s now teamed up with musician M. Ward to put out an album! I’ve heard several tracks from this collaboration, entitled She and Him, Volume One, and trust me, no one is going to dislike this. Click to their unofficial MySpace page to listen to the handful of tracks that I am swooning over.
According to a recent KCRW interview, the collaboration came about while M. Ward worked on a soundtrack for The Go-Getter (which Deschanel stars in), and director/screenwriter Martin Hynes suggested the two do a duet. Singing is nothing new to Deschanel, however, as she’s been doing so for years, even performing with fellow actress Samantha Shelton in an ongoing cabaret act (view clip).
Merge Records intends to release the album in March, though an exact date hasn’t been decided. For more information on this project, see articles at Paste Magazine and Pitchfork.
